LOCATION
SHEPARD APARTMENTS
The Shepard Apartments housing complex consists of nine dwelling units (seven single bedroom and two double bedroom units), a common laundry room, and a Community Meeting Room. The complex is formed into a two storey L-shaped set on one side of a shared exterior space with the existing Willam Ware House. The complex fronts onto, and is approached from, Jefferson Street to the east.
ORIENTATION
The long leg of the building, which accommodates the single bedroom units, opens to the south, and across the adjacent alley to the gardens of the Kaufman Senior Center . The community meeting room occupies the ground level at the eastern end of the building and faces Jefferson Street. It is easily identified, accessed and monitored by the normal activities of the complex.
ORGANIZATION
In general, the composition of the building on its site, its landscaping and its design – particularly the dimension of its parts, the patterns of its openings, and the form of its roofs – blend well with the general character of the surrounding neighborhood which is extremely pleasant and livable.
