LOCATION
OREGON HEALTH and SCIENCE UNIVERSITY : SCHOOL of DENTISTRY
There are two fundamentally important collective identities in the School of Dentistry . One is the clinical program, which serves the community, and the other is the teaching program, which serves the students. Form is given to these collective identities by devising a scheme that gathers the parts around a larger, shared, common space.

ORIENTATION
The various program components are accommodated in three relatively narrow bars which are grouped around the central common space. The program allocated to each bar forms a related functional group that gives each bar a distinct identity. One of these bars continues up four floors above the school to accommodate its research activities.

ORGANIZATION
The exterior is given order and scale by the expression of the building’s structural system, and is made lively and responsive by its infill assemblies. Terracotta tile closure panel was chosen because of its warm color and its relationship to Portland ’s traditional masonry materials. Glazing assemblies using the same module are assembled and orchestrated to respond to the particularities of orientation as well as to the different functions within.
