LOCATION
OREGON HEALTH SCIENCES UNIVERSITY - MACADAM REDEVELOPMENT
From 1988 to 2003 OHSU saw a ten-fold increase in annual research funding, accompanied by subsequent growth of its facilities. In collaboration with Municipal Authorities, the University ear-marked eight city blocks in the Macadam Redevelopment Area for expansion. These blocks were to be developed as a Central City Campus directly connected to the existing campus on Marquam Hill by an aerial tramway.

ORIENTATION
The first-phase goals for the project called for 400,000 gross square feet to accommodate initial space for education, administrative, clinical care, and research laboratory spaces, as well as temporary “surge” space. In addition the ground level was to be zoned for retail, with other areas in the building marketed for related tenant space. The resulting new campus would play a central role in the redevelopment of the surrounding waterfront area into a high-density, mixed-use, residential/retail, urban neighborhood.
