SPECIAL NEEDS HOUSING: COURTYARD HOUSING PROTOTYPES for the DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED
Mainstream Housing is the fourth phase of dismantling the present state system for housing the developmentally disabled. Community integration places residents into smaller homes built throughout the state, eliminating large institutional environments. The project includes two building types - a courtyard model, and an extended family model. The courtyard model (shown here) was a previously designed building which needed to be improved architecturally, functionally, and economically.

ORIENTATION
The Courtyard model is a five bedroom single family residence with special adaptations for use as residential care facilities for the developmentally disabled. The adaptations are designed to accommodate people with moderate to severe behavioral disorders, medical conditions and other special needs.
