LOCATION
SPECIAL NEEDS HOUSING - ADULT FOSTER CARE PROTOTYPES
The design of the Adult Foster Care prototypes creates a setting which supports a sense of community while respecting the privacy of individual residents. The shared living, dining and kitchen spaces at the front of the house interconnect to form a larger space which overlaps with a sky-lit central hall. The hall unites the bedroom realm, serves as a social and exercise place and connects the bedrooms to the shared bathroom at the center of the group.
ORIENTATION
The rooms of the house are simply configured and well proportioned, with generous windows for natural light and views. The shared spaces form a shifting but continuous sense of openness from one end of the house to the other with a variety of views inside as well as out. The resulting spaciousness provides residents a comfortable home in an interesting, changing environment. Outside, the front porch and dining room bay contrast with the modest and straightforward larger house form, creating a picturesque composition in the manner of the American Bungalow.
